Earth Alive biological products contain an organic vegetative surfactant which acts as a natural cleaner and decomposition agent that is non-carcinogenic, non-toxic, non-flammable, pH neutral, hypoallergenic and void of; VOC’s, solvents, phosphates (or brighteners), non-FDA dyes, non- FDA approved fragrances, Butyls. All products contain a proprietary blend of naturally occurring, non-pathogenic, non-mutating, organic, biodegradable robust consortia of micro-organisms derived from vegetative sources. Earth Alive’s powdered products come in a concentrate, and are packaged in recycled delivery systems.

Earth Alive products are made from renewable resources and are ‘beneficial’ for the environment. The powdered concentrated cleaning solutions boast the smallest ‘carbon footprint’ in the industry, and dilution ratios that amaze almost any seasoned janitorial professional.

Earth Alive products are specially designed to protect the health and safety of humans, and the environment (wildlife, air quality, ozone depletion, aquatic life and ecosystems). Moreover, Earth Alive products are harmless when introduced into industrial and municipal waste water treatment plants. Earth Alive products are not tested on animals, and are certified as such (see points 7 & 8 below for details).

All Earth Alive ingredients are classified as G.R.A.S. (Generally Regarded As Safe), and are not WHMIS® OSHA® (in the USA) regulated. Earth Alive products are not considered to be hazardous to the environment, humans, animals or plant life.

  1. Clean Air Solvent Certificate (CAS) - In April of 1999, The South Coast Air Quality Management District of California, certified Earth Alive’s Industrial Cleaning formula as a Clean Air Solvent. California outlawed the use of petroleum based solvents in 1999.

  2. US DOT Hazardous Materials Safety for the Safe Transportation of Hazardous Materials (Hatzam) - Exempt - Hazardous material" means a substance or material the Secretary designates under section 5103(a) of Federal Hazardous Materials Transportation Law.

  3. The U.S. Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation & Liability Act (CERCLA) - EXEMPT -  Earth Alive products do not fall within the scope of “CERCLA Directives”.

  4. CE Marking® – EXEMPT  - RapidAll™, CowlKleen™, MaxKleen™ and Bosun’sChoice™ are cleaning products that do not fall within the scope of any of the European ‘New Approach Directives’, which would require the product to be CE® Marked before placing on the market, or putting into service, in the European Economic Area .

  5. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not contain any ingredients that fall under the scope/guidelines of WHMIS, and as such they are WHMIS exempt. WHMIS is analogous to the American Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) administered by the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration

  6. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not contain any ingredients that fall under the scope/guidelines of OSHA.

  7. EPA Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) - Exempt - No ingredients are listed. Earth Alive products do not fall within the scope of “The EPA TSCA Directives”.

  8. SARA - Title III - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not fall within the scope of “SARA Title III Act Directives”.

  9. US - EPA Superfund - Exempt - All Earth Alive formulas are exempt from Title III Consolidated List of Lists - October 2001 and as a result are not required to be reported to the EPA Superfund.

  10. National Toxicology Program (NTP) - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not fall within the scope of "CERCLA Directives".

  11. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) (part of the Who) - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not contain any carcinogens; as a result they are IARC exempt.

  12. The American Conference of Governmental Industries Hygienists (ACGIH®) - Exempt - Earth Alive products do not contain any ingredients that fall under the scope/guidelines of the ACGIH, and as such they are ACGIH exempt.

  13. U.S. Green Building Council - LEED®-EB Certification Rating System - Applicable - This is a set of voluntary performance standards for the sustainable upgrades and operation of buildings not undergoing major renovations. It provides sustainable guidelines for building operations, periodic upgrades of building systems, minor space use changes and building processes. Our product(s) qualify for several sustainable classifications in the LEED-EB rating system contributing towards generating points towards LEED-EB certification for an existing building.

  14. Designed for the Environment - Certified
    In February of 2002, Earth Alive received certification from the US EPA for its BioKure for Septic Holding Tank product as qualifying for the DfE program. This program seeks to promote the use of deodorizing formulations with improved environmental and human health characteristics. The key purpose of the EPA-DfE and Earth Alive partnership is to recognize and encourage the environmentally preferable chemistry of Earth Alive. By eliminating biocides and using more biodegradable and less harmful surfactants, fragrances and other ingredients, Earth Alive illustrates its active environmental stewardship and dedication to continuous improvement in protecting aquatic life, improving worker health and to help safeguard human health and environment.

  15. CEPA Environmental Registry Domestic Substances List (DSL) - Listed
    CEPA was designed by Environment Canada in accordance with the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). The DSL defines "existing" substances for the purposes of implementing CEPA and is the sole basis for determining whether a substance is "existing" or "new" to Canada. A Federally run program that controls the use of microbes in products for the Canadian market place. The microbes used in Earth Alive biological dry concentrates comply with the Canadian – DSL list (domestic substance list) and Class 1, non-pathogenic, non mutating spore form / spore forming organisms of the bacillus family, in Asia, Europe, Australia, United States and most other countries. All of the microbes used in Earth Alive formulas are from naturally occurring sources.

  16. Transport Canada - Recognized
    Earth Alive recently been recognized by Transport Canada to be an “Environmentally and Human Safe Cleaning Solutions” chemical manufacturer. Earth Alive is listed on the CANUTEC web site under the heading “Cleaners/Emulsifiers/Degreasers/Surfactants“.

  17. Quebec Environment Ministry - Approved - The company received written approval from the Quebec Environment Ministry to operate a blending and packaging plant in Waterloo, QC. In order to obtain this permit, we were required to furnish the government with the same information provided to the US EPA. After their review, they deemed that there was nothing in Earth Alive formulas or processes that were found to be dangerous to the environment.

  18. Substrate (carrier) well known in North America - Recognized
    The nutrient laced carrier used in all Earth Alive formulas represents over eighty percent of the ingredients in our products. This carrier has been approved for use in animal feeds and other food related applications by the US FDA and Agricultural Canada. Used as a palletizing aid for animal feed, in boiler water treatment, sealing gaskets for food containers, etc. is indicated in Title 21 of the code of regulations of the US FDA. Use of this substrate for palletizing animal feed is permitted by Agriculture Canada in the Feeds Act and Feeds Regulations. Safe use history of this substrate, government regulations that permit use of the substrate in animal feeds, and toxicological studies have demonstrated that this substrate is safe, non toxic and a non hazardous ingredient. 


  19. NSF International - Certified - The Public Health and Safety Company™, is an independent, not-for-profit organization, providing public health and safety risk management solutions to companies, governments and consumers around the world. NSF® launched its voluntary Nonfood Compounds Registration Program in 1999 to re-introduce the previous authorization program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Products eligible for NSF Registration include all compounds used in and around food establishments (nonfood compounds), such as cleaners, disinfectants and lubricants. NSF® Registration assures inspection officials and end users that formulations and labels meet appropriate food safety regulations. Earth Alive has multiple products certified as Nonfood Compounds Program Listed Class A1.

  20. Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) - Certified - The nutrient laced carrier used in all Earth Alive has received approval in the form of an official document from the CFIA permitting the use of RapidAll™, MaxKleen™ and Bosun’s Choice™ in federally registered food plants.

  21. US Presidential (Executive) Order 13101- Applicable - All Earth Alive products meet the criteria in US Presidential Order 13101 guiding US Federal Agencies in granting of preference to the purchase of products which impose fewer burdens on the environment


  22. Star-K Kosher Certification - Certified - STAR-K Kosher Certification has provided kosher supervision for over fifty years. The GRA has determined that our products are efficient, safe to work with and environmentally responsible in promoting environmental stewardship and energy conservation initiatives.

  24. Green Hotels Association (GHA) - Approved - The GHA has determined that our products are efficient, safe to work with and environmentally responsible in promoting environmental stewardship and energy conservation initiatives.

Leaping Bunny - Certified - In past, companies had designed their own bunny logos, abiding by their own definition of "cruelty free" or "animal friendly" without the participation of animal protection groups. In response, eight national animal protection groups banded together to form the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). NATO Commercial and Government Entity (NCAGE) - Code NCAGE - L6835 Leaping Bunny - INCAGE Codes are used extensively in various procurement, codification and logistics functions throughout the Federal Government as well as by over 20 countries worldwide. One of its’ primary purposes is to identify potential sources of supply for items being acquired by the military forces of these countries.

AMS Specifications (Aerospace Material Specification) 1526B - Certified - Cleaner for Aircraft Exterior Surfaces – Water-Miscible, Pressure-Spraying Type These are standards developed by the Aerospace Materials Division under the direction of the SAE Aerospace Council.  Over 1200 AMS’s have been adopted by the Department of Defence and are used worldwide by the aerospace industry.

  35. ASTM Specifications (American Society for Testing and Materials) - Certified - These standards are developed voluntarily by technically qualified members located   worldwide. ASTM standards are used as reference procedures in most AMS and Military   aerospace specifications. Specifics: F1110, F1111, F483, F484, F485, F502, F519 Type   1C, F519-93, D56, D1105, D1193.
